Here at La Cazalla, we were very fortunate being able to gather our olives before the heavy rains started, for, if we should have left it for a week later, the rains fallen in the area would have ruined totally our harvest. We only have sixty olives, but they can give us around 1.000Kgs which are transformed in around 100lts of exceptionally good olive oil, to keep us going very comfortably the whole year round.

As we do not add any chemical to the soil, sometimes the trees are atacked by a bug that diminishes considerably what you can collect and this year and for that reason we only picked up 700 Kgs, but we prefer it this way, for it is important for us to keep the soil biologically healthy.

You probably are asking yourselves what are those incredibly red bushes that are shown in the photographs, well, they are zumaque, Rhus coriaria, used in this area for tanning leather during Arab times around the X century.Its harvest got to be a profitable activity until in modern times the tanning industry substituted the zumaque for Chrome.

The bushes shown in these photographs are small remains of that ancient industry.

Again, La Cazalla de Ronda Hotel starts serving Dinners

Dinner at La Cazalla is always a main event. In Spring, Summer and Autumn it is served in the beautiful terraces under the stars, by candle light and song of nightingales and fountains, just as it might have been two thousand years ago, when the property was owned first by Romans and later by Arabs.

It requires previous reservation, latest during breakfast, or even better, the day before. And if the guest is planning to have dinner at the hotel on the date of arrival, must let us know with time, through email or phone call.

Time serving: 9:00 PM in June, July, August and September

8:00 PM during rest of the year
Menu consist of a three course meal
Price menu: €40 per person (no wine or 7% tax included

We ask our guests to let us know if they have any known allergies or dislikes and we will plan dinner according to these requirements. Ingredients are always first quality and chosen by their universal acceptance, using whenever we can, vegetables and fruits from our own garden, and always our own olive oil, and although we have not applied for the oficial ecological seal, we never have put any chemicals in our vegetables, fruits, or herbs.

At this time, if it wasn't because in our privileged world, we also have to keep on living, with all the consecuences that life implies, it would seem obscene to talk about good cooking, exquisite presentation and ideal atmosphere which is what we offer at La Cazalla de Ronda

The dimensions of the tragedy in Haiti has stared at us,lucky human beings of the first world, in an accusing sort of way, forcing us to look inside ourselves and see how fatuous and superfluous most of our cares are, how many prerogatives we posssess by the mere geographical accident of our birth, and how much of our suffering is due to the fact that we want more and better of whatever, it does not matter what, while so many others extended through three continents would be happy with a small part of what we throw away.
And this is so everyday of their miserable lives, without any disaster. It is when disaster comes that we are forced to look at them, because it is news all over the world, and news is a very coveted good, for it is buying and selling what makes our society even richer.

All of us will do whatever we can to help, I'm sure, but will we and our politicians remember when the news is not news anylonger?

WINTER COURSES AT HOTEL LA CAZALLA, RONDA

Papier mache rod puppets

By the end of the course, each participant will have created a simple but beautiful and unique papier mache rod puppet using materials that are normally discarded in everyday life: and old boot, a nylon stocking, an ugly necklace, an out of fashion blouse, a broken belt, converting them into beautiful complements for your puppet.

We will go over the basics of how to put up a puppet show for a holiday party with participation of friends and family and will have the opportunity to see how a real puppet theater has been made and lighted as well as the scenarios.

Dates:

The course will start the 3rd of December and will end December 7th

The five dayly sessions will start at 9:00AM and will end at 1:00 PM

Breakfast will be served at the Hotel at 8:00AM

As the purpose of the course is not only to learn how to make puppets, but to combine this activity with slow tourism, if work planned for a particular session was finished before 1:00PM, the class will decide if to end it for that day, or continue advancing work planned for next day.

All materials are included, but if you wish to bring a special material, or jewelry it will be welcome.

Why Puppets?
It was years ago, during a terribly stressing period of my life while working for a large fashion company in Madrid, that I retook a forgotten hobby of mine which in the past had given me so many satisfactions: puppet making .

Simple papier mache rod puppets that friends and family coveted as gifts and were the perfect excuse for creating charming plays in festive occasions, allowing me to disconnect from dayly work pressure, while I dreamt of having the courage of leaving everything behind, and return to Andalucía, where I had been so happy.

But one day I stopped dreaming about it and took a decision: I would definetely return to Andalucía, but not to that coast village where I had lived for so many years, before small villages stopped being that: small villages by the sea and were transformed into amorphous masses of cemented cells. No, it would have to be in the interior of that green and secret Andalucía so beautiful and yet so unknown, even to natives, where my teenage son and I would start a completely new life.

The almost two kilometer dirt track that leads to La Cazalla, our small rural B&B hotel in Ronda's most beautiful valley, acts as an effective filter dissuading people who otherwise would come by chance and discover later on that they do not love silence, or Nature's sounds as much as they might have fancied, and that they really have nothing to say to the partner they have chosen to come with.

When new comers come for the first time to La Cazalla de Ronda adventuring themselves through a country path, and decide to go on following our directions, although they are almost certain that by this time they are lost, and almost inmediately they find themselves at our gate, this people are not typical tourists, they are travellers with curiosity for the hidden and often secret elements that a country and culture have to offer, and definetely love Nature and are surely going to enjoy our beautiful landscape and peaceful rural hotel.

Hello friends from around the world,

I hope all of you are well and the crisis is not hiting you too hard. Here it is as bad as everywhere else but, at least we are having a beautiful spring, full of flowers and greenery, first the wisteria literally invaded the upper terrace, with flowers and perfume, and before that the lillies and their fragance were all around us. I have never seen so many roses at La Cazalla, and pretty soon the jasmin will sweaten the air. Yes it being beautiful and promises to be good summer.

We have a new cottage: "La Casita"

The small cottage that we finished decorating last year has been working reasonably well, considering the global crisis in which we are all immersed, and must say that the guests that have occupied it, have been very happy about it and promised they would recommend us and would come back as soon as possible. Until now we have had several English couples, Australian, German, Canadian and Swiss.

We are renting it on a weekly bases and it is perfect for two, but we could put up an extra foldable bed if needed, and although of course these arrangements always rest comfort, it is still ideal for a couple with a child given the intimacy it offers.

It has a small but charming livingroom with incorporated fully equipped kitchen with large fridge, fireplace, microwave, water boiler, juice maker, ironing board, steam iron and every thing needed to spend one week comfortably. It also has a large bedroom with king size bed, very large closet with lots of space for baggage, and a great bathroom with sunken bathtub. All windows are protected with mosquito net, ceiling fans, having followed the same standards of quality and good taste as you find at La Cazalla main building.

It also has three terraces with the same magnificent views of the mountains as in the rest of the house including bathroom.

La Casita, although only a few meters from the hotel, has total intimacy and therefore we thought that it would not disturb anybody if we install Satelite TV. It also has DVD and connection to Internet by plugging in. Wifi signal is not strong enough there.
And it is very possible that guests staying at La Casita will have their own tomatoes this Summer together with mint for their tea, rosemary, and dill, for they are already planted in the small garden by the south terrace.

By the way, it is nicely cool in Summer, so do not let fear of heat keep you away.

Of course guests have full use of all common services including the pool.

Price: €700 per week, plus 7% taxes.

It includes:

-central heating from 8:00 to 11:00AM and from 4:00 to 10:00 PM. and free access to wood for fireplace.
